Today, 55% of district heating is already generated from renewable energy sources and waste heat from the recycling of residual materials. Large-scale solar thermal systems are a cost-efficient low carbon technology to provide renewable heat at a competitive heat price. The use of solar heat in the urban district heating network has been tried and tested for 20 years and is state of the art. The technology is constantly developing, and large-scale solar plants today deliver significantly higher yields than 15 years ago. Looking at Austria, Increased use of solar energy in district heating contributes to reducing Austria’s dependence on fossil fuels and also secures many domestic jobs.
For a sector-wide complete decarbonisation, the use of renewable energy sources is unconditionally necessary. SOLID Solar Energy Systems is a world-wide pioneer in solar district heating and is going to share its experience in a workshop with the topic “Solar Heat for cities” on 22th of June 2021.
In the Workshop (free of charge) the role of solar heating in a climate-neutral district heating future with top experts from the Climate and Energy Fund, Stadtwerke Mürzzuschlag, SOLID and AEE INTEC. The online workshop is held in German language, here you find the program as well as registration information: Registration
