SOLID supports shaping the future of solar thermal

The European Solar Thermal Technology Panel, a part of the “Renewable Heating and Cooling” platform, is working on its brand-new Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda.

The European Solar Thermal Technology Panel (ESTTP),a part of the “Renewable Heating and Cooling” (RHC) platform, is working on its brand-new Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). Currently, the document is under development with the help of the ESTTP steering committee and leading solar thermal experts, involving SOLIDs very own Sabine Putz. A complete revised SRIA will be available in June.

The aim is to revise the research and innovation priorities to identify potentials and gaps in the deployment of renewable heating and cooling solutions.  New research topics, based on achievements in the solar thermal sector, should be defined. In the SRIA document challenges and gaps in in the further development of solar heating and cooling are highlighted, providing an overview of the state of the art and the latest market trends, as well as tackling three macro areas of priorities: technological improvement, system integration, and non-technical issues.

All solar thermal systems are part of the identified research priorities, including their implementation, ranging from buildings integration to large-scale district heating networks. A quantifiable timeline with the required funding will be included.

To address current issues and needs in the industry, a survey among the relevant stakeholders is conducted, in the creation of which, SOLIDs Sabine Putz played a vital part. Based on the survey, a report, directed at the European Commission for a complete picture of renewable heating and cooling in the EU, is derived. The findings will also be implemented in the SRIA.

To contribute contact info@solarheateurope.eu and to help shape the future of renewable heating and cooling take part in the survey here before the end of April.
