What began as a private pilot project of a young biologist for the protection of the environment in Graz 25 years ago became an international pioneer company within the solar thermal industry. Over the past 25 years, the Graz-based solar company SOLID has planned, developed and built more than 300 large-scale solar thermal plants worldwide, operating the largest solar thermal system in a country for more than 30 times. Within 17 years, these plants have replaced some 17.5 million liters of oil with solar energy. As reported, SOLID leads the highly successful global expert network around Task 55 of the International Energy Agency. It focuses on the integration of solar thermal systems in district heating networks. The 3rd meeting of the specialist circle in the field of solar thermal energy and district heating will take place in Abu Dhabi from the 27th to the 28th of October 2017. Starting in 2017, SOLID and the public utility of Mürzzuschlag developed a concept for a large-scale solar thermal plant. The demand for district heating has increased significantly in the Mürzzuschlag area in recent years. A solar system from SOLID will supplement the already existing biomass plant (50% of the current heat demand). Consequently, the project "Solarthermie-Anlage Mayerhoferwiese" was started. The new large-scale solar thermal plant on the northern outskirts of Mürzzuschlag will be built over the next 12 months. The plant will thus cover around 10% of the annual heat demand. On the 13th of September, the public utility of Mürzzuschlag and SOLID met with the population of Mürzzuschlag in the Stadtsaal to clarify all questions and to present the new project on site.Read more ...
